Modern Day Mr. Rogers Ft. Donovan Taylor Hall

This week, I sat down with an amazing educator & youth advocate, Mr. Donovan Taylor Hall. Mr. Donovan, as he is commonly referred to by his students, taught social skills classes at Impact Academy in Oakland, CA that teaches kids how to become active facilitators of their growth. In this episode, we talk about the foundation of Mr. Donovan’s philosophy, which is designed to raise levels of self-esteem and self-worth, creating spaces for youth to find their personal power, and practicing gratitude. I hope you have as much fun hearing from the Modern Day Mr. Rogers, as I had speaking to him!

This week’s special guest for #On1WithAngelaRye is the incredible Dr. Joy. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is a Licensed Psychologist, Author, Media Personality, and the founder of Therapy for Black Girls. She focuses on making mental health topics more relevant and accessible for Black women while using pop culture to further illustrate psychological concepts.

In this episode, we dive into the relationship between mental health and the Black community. We discuss everything from the need for more Black mental health professionals, to PROPER self care practices and the intersection of faith, culture, and therapy.

She serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where she is the Chair of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Global Human Rights. She also serves on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, where she works to craft sound criminal justice reform policies. In this episode, we dive into the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, its language, myths, and misconceptions of the bill and discuss ways everyone can help move this bill forward.
